Please Apple don’t call it the iPhone 6s, begs New York ad agency

A New York ad agency is begging Cupertino not to name the next Apple device the “iPhone 6s.”

6S Marketing has launched a tongue-in-cheek campaign to get Apple’s attention in hopes that the iPhone maker might be persuaded to forego the 6s moniker. The company’s written Apple an open letter, purchased billboards in Times Square and even rolled one of its giant billboards past the iconic Fifth Ave Apple Store.

“We’re not mad,” says 6S Marketing founder and president Chris Breikss. “Our brand hasn’t been destroyed, because I don’t think anyone is going to confuse a cellphone maker with a digital agency, but our name has lost the luster a little bit.”\

Breikss explains that he named the company 6S because it sounds like ‘success.’ Now that Apple is preparing to launch an iPhone with the same name though, the company’s Google Alerts for ‘6S’ and ‘marketing’ have been blowing up.

“We think there’s a chance it won’t be called [the 6S], but if it is we want to be like ‘Hey we’re the little guy, don’t forget about us,’” Breikss told Vancity Buzz. “There’s more to our name that just a model number.”

Apple is expected to announce new iPhones at an event in San Francisco on September 9th. The new iPhones are expected to come with new features like a faster processor, Force Touch, improved cameras, and carry the 6S tag at the end, which will be bad for Breikss’ agency, but they’ll only have to wait a year until the iPhone 7 comes out and life goes back to normal for the small ad firm.
