iOS 8.4.1 might have fine-tuned Apple Music, but some users are complaining about about battery issues after updating to Apple’s latest mobile operating system.

If you’re afflicted, the good news is that iOS 9 is right around the corner. The bad news? That doesn’t help you now, and iOS 9 will likely have its own host of bugs that Apple needs to address. Here are some tips to help you eke out as much battery life in iOS 8.4.1 as possible.

If your battery life is getting you down after last week’s iOS 8.4.1 update, try these tips:

  • Recalibrate the battery: Charge your device to 100 percent, then drain the battery until your device shuts itself off. Plug your device back in and charge it back to 100 percent without interruption. Reset your device by holding both the home and power buttons until the device restarts itself, ignoring the “slide to power off” slider. Your battery should be recalibrated.
  • Perform a Hard Reboot: Reset your device by holding both the home and power buttons until the device restarts itself, ignoring the “slide to power off” slider.
  • Reset your settings to default: Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.
  • Manage which apps use your location: Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and either switch Location Services off, or prune your list of apps which have access to your location.
  • Do a clean reinstall of iOS 8.4.1: Download the IPSW file for your iOS device. Plug your device into iTunes, navigate to the device screen, then option-click (shift-click in Windows) the Restore button, selecting the IPSW file you downloaded.

Honestly, all these tips are good if you’re experiencing battery issues with an iOS device, period. So even when iOS 9 comes out, try them if you get in trouble.
