Microsoft Send is like WhatsApp for work emails

The Microsoft Garage has churned out a new iOS productivity app aimed at streamlining the email experience so users can get in, get in contact, and get on with their work lives as quickly as possible.

The new iOS-only app, Send, aims to make email threads more like short IM messages by stripping out the hassle of finding your contacts, writing subject lines, and keeping tabs on your inbox.

While Send looks and feels more like WhatsApp than regular email apps, the technology behind it is still reliant on email. In fact, in order to use send you’ll need an Office 365 business or school email account. Once you load the app, Send automatically surfaces your more frequent and recent contacts, giving you faster access to start conversations.

Microsoft says the point behind Send is most co-workers have each others email addresses, but rarely have their cell phone number. Communicating can be a headache if all you need to do is send a quick note to a co-worker asking if they’ll be at a presentation later, but Send comes in to provide a quick, simple, text message-like experience, all within compliance of your organization’s email policies.

Thanks to its connection to Office 365, Send syncs all of your conversations with Outlook so you can continue conversations from anywhere. All you need is someone’s email address and you can message them from anywhere, no need to ask for their phone number or user name.

The app is available on iPhone right now, with versions for Android and Windows Phone slated for release later this year.
