Buying any Apple product — whether a phone, tablet or laptop — is an investment in quality. We pay a premium for the sake of a device that’s designed and built to last, perform and look good while doing so.

Unless, of course, you’re talking about the power supply that comes with any MacBook. Somehow, Cupertino’s hardware wizards haven’t been able to move us beyond an unwieldy, tentacled plastic brick whose white plastic quickly gets scuffed up and filthy.

A pair of cute little plastic feet swing out to allow for wrapping the computer-side cable, but the design creates tension that can lead to fraying. Thus, many MacBook users find themselves removing from their bags a sleek, slender and beautiful silver computing machine — followed immediately by a tangled plastic mass that looks like something a stormtrooper’s cat coughed up.

Enter Leon Spencer of Atlanta. Think of him like Tony Stark for your power adapter.

He’s come up with a rough-and-tumble suit of armor for your MagSafe charger, dubbed MeezyCube, to keep your computer’s juice box tidy and safe from day-to-day damage. A set of four raised corners stands the brick vertically, reminiscent of old Mac Pro towers, and helps keep the brick cool by preventing heat from getting trapped under one of the large flat sides that more often than not end up flat on the ground.

MeezyCube also features a nifty plastic “trumpet” that guides the wrapping of the thin power cable in a way that avoids adding tension and, therefore, prevents fraying.

There are plenty of covers for phones and laptops, but not so for this critical and most vulnerable of components. And at around $80, the power supply is not a cheap part to trade out, especially now that Apple’s replacement program for busted power bricks has ended.

The magnetic clasp isn’t licensed to third-party companies, so you’ve either got to protect the charger you’ve got or be ready to replace it if and when it finally gives in to routine abuse.

Spencer tapped the talents of 15 different teams of design students from Southern Polytechnic State University to arrive at the final iteration of the MeezyCube. Four hard plastic corners snap together around a central core, each of which can be mixed based on your favorite colors. Upcoming versions will allow for custom branding to support your favorite band, promote your business, and on and on.

Unlike Tony Stark — whose suit of armor is going to be flying in front of our faces every year whether we want to see it or not — Spencer needs some help to bring his invention to market.

He launched a Kickstarter campaign Sunday that’s offering the MeezyCube for early backers at $9, along with a first-run edition in green. The MeezyCube Kickstarter campaign just launched, with an estimated shipping date of September 2015.

Head on over and show your support; this device will give all MacBook owners one less thing to worry about, not to mention help you save some money in the long run.
