Crafting a tiny icon for an Apple Watch app is a huge design challenge. Coming up with one that’s truly adorable – even at 80 pixels by 80 pixels – requires something like a graphic design miracle.
Lucky for anyone strapping an Apple Watch on their wrists this Friday, some designers have been working wonders. Behold the cutest Apple Watch app icons in the world!
Even Apple knows this is a challenge.
“Every app needs a beautiful, memorable home screen icon that uniquely identifies the app to the user,” say the Apple developer guidelines for the Apple Watch. “Because apps on the home screen are identified solely by their icon, your icon should be recognizable and similar to your iOS app icon while still conveying the purpose of your app.”
Some designers have nailed it, as you can see in our list below, with images embedded from the fantastic site WatchAware.
Look at that cute little rounded Trivial Pursuit-style icon, complete with adorable little face on it. The icon is adorable at large size and immediately identifiable as a tiny icon on your Apple Watch. Super cute, and super useful.
Seriously, maybe I’m a sucker for adorable little Tamagotchi creatures, but I want this app on my Apple Watch for the sweet-faced little croc-monster icon alone. So cute!
This cute little robot head just calls out to me, and looks fantastic at the small Apple Watch size. I don’t think I’d have any problem picking it out from the dozens of other Watch apps that I plan on putting on my wrist. How about you?
Lose It is a great app for counting calories and tracking your exercise, and now it’s got an adorable re-boot of its icon to fit in with all the other fun round icons on the Apple Watch. It’s clearly a scale, but round!
This one is super cute, with it’s little bicycle guy speeding along. In select cities, Postmates will deliver you food and stuff right to your door. Now you can tap the cute little cyclist and get your updates right on your Apple Watch.
Cute little cloud icon, or cutest little cloud icon? I’m gonna have to go with the latter, as this app from the most sadistic fitness and productivity developers is clearly the cutest. Just look at it, all nicely embedded in the other Home screen apps there, just aching to be tapped. D’awwwwww.
No one will mistake this app icon for anything other than an adorable matching game based on fruit, am I right? What a fun little cherry icon, perfect for tapping on my wrist and launching a fun little tappy game on my Apple Watch. I can’t wait.

I just want to push that cute little button, don’t you? This is the re-imagined If This, Then That app that lets you string together productivity tasks together and launch them with a push of a button. This incredibly adorable button.
The Twitterrific icon is already pretty adorable, but the round image mask truly puffs up this tiny blue bird into super cute status. Tap your way through a ton of tweets with this easily recognizable icon on your Apple Watch.
One of my favorite podcasting apps is available for the Apple Watch, and its tiny little broadcast radio tower is just super cute at the tiny size appropriate for tapping on my wrist. I’m looking forward to this one, too!
