Not all of us work 9 to 5’s. My wife, for example, works all sorts of shifts, working around her school schedule: 8:30 – 5:30 one day, then 1:30 to 9:30 the next. And as a guy who spends the better part of each day glued to a computer just two rooms away from his bed, it can be pretty hard to keep track just when she’s working, and when I can next expect to see her.
Shifts is an app that solves all that. A calendar app specifically designed for people who either work retail jobs, or otherwise have constantly shifting work schedules, it’s an ingenious little app that makes managing your weekly shifts -— and keeping your partner informed of them — a snap.
Here’s how it works. Once you download the app, Shifts allows you to quickly add different hourly shifts to your calendar so you can keep track of when you have to work. If you have a regular rotation, it can set Shifts up to keep itself up to date automatically, or just enter your shifts manually.
From there, Shifts lefts you share your schedule with others, add notes to different days, or set up reminders. The best feature, though, might just be the ability to tell Shifts your hourly wage, which will allow it to forecast how much you will earn over the coming month.
It sometimes seems like most of the apps that come down the pipeline are aimed at “professionals” in the sense that they were a suit and tie to the office every day. It’s refreshing to see an app aimed squarely at the millions of other professionals out there, who stamp a time card every day.
You can download Shifts for just $1.99 in the App Store.
