In a much-requested feature, paying Spotify users can now use their iPhone or iPad to control the songs playing on their desktop computer.

Thanks to the update, you can now easily switch between desktop and mobile — perhaps using your iPad to skip and change tracks at a party, or shutting down your laptop, and then picking up listening on your iPhone from exactly where you left off on your phone.

As TechCrunch points out, it’s not exactly the kind of life-altering feature that will make non-premium users immediately shell out $10 per month, but it does accomplish the purpose of making Spotify a little better and more fun to use. If you’re a premium customer, all you have to do is let your mobile app locate your desktop and the two will be linked from this point on.

It’s been a big last few weeks for Spotify. First of all, iPad users finally got the Spotify iPad update they had been dreaming of. Then, more significantly, Spotify overtook iTunes downloads for the first time — representing a milestone for streaming music.
