Do you take pictures of all your meals to share with your friends on Facebook and Instagram? Wish there was a way to share even more of it with your FOMO-ing virtual friends?

Well, you can’t share the taste, or the smell, but 3DAround is an upcoming iOS app that lets you share the food you’re eating in all of its three-dimensional glory. And you can do it with other things too.

The developers of the app, Dacuda, gave Techcrunch a sneak peek at their app, and it looks promising. Essentially, the app turns your iPhone’s camera into a handheld 3-D scanner. You take a burst of photos of something, and they are then automatically stitched together into a 3-D model.

But while 3DAround can be used with any object, Dacuda’s CTO, Alexander Ilic, says it was created specifically for food photography:

Ilic says the inspiration for the app came from watching food blogger friends take dozens of photos of plates of grub from different angles and struggle to decide which was best. He thought “Why can’t you just go around the whole thing, so you don’t have to worry about the perfect shot with a single angle.”

3DAround will only work with iOS 8, since it requires full access to the iPhone camera API. The app will be released next month for all you 3D-loving gourmands! We’ll let you know when it’s up.
