JJ Abrams eagerly-anticipated Star Wars Episode VII has announced two new intriguing casting decisions: adding actresses Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie to the fold.

Nyong’o is best known to movie fans as an Academy Award winner for her role in the recent 12 Years a Slave, while Christie plays Game of Thrones badass Brienne of Tarth. Although Nyong’o had been previously rumored for a role in the movie, Christie’s casting is a surprise.

“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”

Nyong’o and Christie join an impressive cast already including John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

While talented actors such as Liam Neeson and Natalie Portman failed to shine in the George Lucas prequels, hopefully the more practical effects of the new Star Wars movies will allow this ensemble the opportunity to shine.
