There’s talk that the iPod is dead, but not so. Although Apple’s selling less of its iconic MP3 player than it has in years, there’s at least one place where iPods are worth their weight in gold: Sochi, where an Olypic athlete nicknamed ‘iPod’ has brought home the gold.

Although as of writing, NBC has not yet aired the olympic snowboarding coverage to come todat out of Sochi, TUAW is reporting that Swiss Olympian Iouri Podladtchikov — affectionately known by his nickname ‘iPod’ — has brought home the gold medal, shutting two-time U.S. gold medalist Shaun White out of the podium entirely.

Anyone want to guess if iPods will see a slight sales surge in wake of the win? And can Podladtchikov count himself in for an official Apple endorsement deal? (Not likely.)
