Developers are making some pretty awesome apps for the Pebble smartwatch, but Chrono could be one of the most significant to date — at least for its creator, Rick Ucker.

Ucker built the simple app to propose to his now fiancée, who bought him the $150 smartwatch for his birthday.

The app’s theme was based on the classic SNES RPG Chrono Trigger, which Ucker and his fiancée both enjoyed playing as kids. “The purpose was simple,” he says, “ I wanted a way to propose to my girlfriend that was 1) romantic 2) not TOO romantic 3) played on common interests of ours and 4) was a little geeky.”

The apps displays two characters from the 1995 classic, with the message “I love you very much and I want the world to know that we’re a team. Let’s take on the world together. Let’s make it official. Will you be my Lucca?”

Lucca said yes.

“I chose Chrono Trigger, the classic SNES RPG, as a theme for two reasons,” Ucker explains. “First, she and I grew up playing a lot of video games and Chrono Trigger was always a favorite of ours. We discovered this fact the night we met, much to our mutual delight. Second, the Chrono (time) theme was apt considering the fact that the app was to run on a watch.”

It’s a pretty awesome idea, and Ucker has even released the source code to the app so that others can give it a shot. If you think it’ll work for you, you can download the code from GitHub by following the source link below.
