Australian publisher Halfbrick (Jetpack Joyride, Fruit Ninja, Age of Zombies) announced Tuesday that its new free-to-play band simulator game Band Stars will release to the App Store on Thursday, December 5.
The game, developed in collaboration with Australia-based Six Foot Kid, has been in development for a while, with an early build available last March at the Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco. Come this Thursday, you’ll be able to download the game for free onto your iOS device and start a band.
Band Stars is all about managing a rock band, unlocking 40 characters that you can train up to become better players. You’ll have your band learn, play, and mix songs in a bunch of different genres and styles, trying to release that one international hit that puts you to the top of the charts. The game play sounds somewhat like Game Dev Story, another top iOS game that has you choosing the right developer teams and game genres to create a hit video game.
The build of Band Stars we saw had cute visuals, fun music mini-games, and an adorable sense of humor that seemed informed by folks who’d been in bands before.
Band Stars will be available as a universal app for free on the App Store this coming Thursday. There’s no information about an Android version at this time, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any updates.
