As Black Friday and Cyber Monday come creeping up on us, so do some of the best app deals, as developers slash prices on their software to get us all geared up for the holidays. One of the first great deals of the season is now here: if you love turn-based-strategy and want to help the Earth repel a wave of alien invaders, XCOM: Enemy Unknown has dropped to just $9.99.

First released for iOS in June, the iOS port of the popular PC/Xbox 360/PS3 game by Firaxis didn’t sacrifice anything to come to mobile, short of a few shaders. It’s the same great game, and it arguably plays even better on a trackpad.

Here’s the brief synopsis of the game:

Threatened by an unknown enemy, Earth’s governments unite to form an elite paramilitary organization, known as XCOM. As the commander of XCOM, you must create a fully operational base, research alien technologies, plan combat missions, and lead your soldiers in fierce battles against a terrifying alien invasion. The decisions you make will affect the fate of humanity. You are our last hope.

XCOM would be one of my votes for game of the year on iOS, but it’s usually pretty expensive at $19.99. Through the weekend, though, you can pick it up for half-off, paying just $9.99 for one of the best strategy games on the platform.
