Apple has today begun selling the iPhone 5s unlocked and SIM-free to customers in the United States. Customers can stick in any GSM SIM card (so that’s one from AT&T or T-Mobile) when they receive the device and begin using it immediately with their existing plan — but they’ll have to wait 1-2 weeks for it to ship.

Prices start at $649 for the 16GB iPhone 5s, while the 32GB model costs $749 and the high-end 64GB model costs $849. All three colors are available, but no matter which one you choose, the shipping delay is the same.

The iPhone 5s first went on sale in the U.S. on September 2o, but until today, U.S. customers have had to buy it subsidized with a two-year contract, or locked to prepaid carriers like T-Mobile. International markets have had the unlocked model from day one, however.
