In OS X Mountain Lion, Apple made sharing files between two Macs easier than ever before with AirDrop… but that only works if you’re on the same network. What if you want something as easy to use as AirDrop, but with people outside the range of your Time Capsule?
Enter Infinit, a slick new Mac file-sharing app that makes it effortless to send files to anyone, even if their computer is turned off.
A simple menu bar app, Infinit couldn’t be simpler. To send a file to someone, just type in their name. Your friend or colleague will then be sent a message, asking if they want to accept the file. Once they accept, Infinit shakes hands with your friend’s computer and starts sending the file, which can then be paused, quit or stopped for later.
According to Lifehacker, Infinit is super fast… faster than AirDrop or Dropbox. Even better, since you don’t have to worry about dropped connections or someone’s cloud storage library, Infinit makes transferring files even easier than AirDrop.
Unfortunately, there is a pretty big caveat here: Infinit requires being installed on every machine you want to use to transfer files to. Give it a shot, though. If you need to send a lot of files around, you’ll be glad you did.
