The Kúla Deeper Isn’t What You Think It Is

The “Kúla Deeper” might sound like yet another technique ex-Policeman and legendary love-machine Sting has learned in order to drive the ladies wild, but it is in fact an add-on for any DSLR that makes shooting 3-D pictures and movies easy.

Yes, in theory those 3-D videos and pictures could be of Sting removing Roxanne’s red dress in slow motion, for eight hours at a time, but you could also use its powers for good.

As ever with optics, it’s all done with mirrors. The Kúla Deeper essentially consists of two periscopes set side-by-side in a unit that mounts on the front of your lens. It takes two images with roughly the same distance between them as that between your eyes, and combines them onto one frame.

From there, you can use the Kúla software to slice and dice these images into various types of 3-D, including Man Ray and Salvador Dalí’s favorite red/cyan anaglyphs, or fancier, modern 3-D formats that this author doesn’t understand (I wear glasses, meaning I never watch 3-D movies in the theater).

Want one? Then head over to Karolina Fund (a European Kickstarter) and make your pitch. €59 seems to be the minimum to actually get a Kúla, so if all you’re after is Sting’s legendary staying power, then a cock ring might be cheaper.
