24 Hour Music Videos Could Come To The Apple TV This Week Thanks To Vevo Deal

Earlier this month, we reported that Vevo, the popular music platform, was in talks with Apple to make its own Apple TV channel a reality. The channel would allow Apple TV owners to access Vevo’s 24-7 music programming, and would be monetized by ads.

Unfortunately, there were no other details, and you know what they say, “A rumor’s not a rumor that doesn’t die.” So let’s kill off this rumor by making it a reality: the Wall Street Journal is now reporting that the Vevo app could launch on the Apple TV as early as this week.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Vevo — a co-venture between Sony and Vivendi’s music publishing arms — have already inked deals with Apple to deliver their on-demand music videos to Apple TV owners, as well as an entirely new channel of original, 24-hour a day programming.

It’s not just coming to the Apple TV either: Samsung is apparently also getting Vevo on its line-up of Smart TVs. The channel will come to the Apple TV first, though, with Samsung getting Vevo later this fall.

As you’re probably aware, Apple’s been pursuing video content providers more aggressively in recent months, trying to ink deals to get them their own channels on the Apple TV. In just the last few months, the Apple TV has added WatchESPN and HBO Go to the Apple TV’s programming, and it’s also reportedly working on CW and Time Warner content deals. Apple also recently acquired video search startup Matcha recently. It looks pretty obvious that Apple is intending on making a more concerted push into the living room sometime soon. This is just the beginning.
