This frantic, wacky 2D endless runner from Illinois-based development studio High Voltage Games (Zoombies, The Conduit HD) has just been chosen as the iTunes App Store’s Free App of the Week. To celebrate, Le Vamp is now completely free to download and try out for the next few days.

Hurry, though, the special offer only lasts through August 1 at 11 pm Central US time.

Seriously, though, this is a fun little game, and worth the small amount it cost before going free (it was $0.99 most recently, and has been as much as $1.99).

In the game, you play the little vampire, running for his life from an angry mob of villagers, armed with anger, hatred, and pitchforks, not to mention torches. You’ll have to fling pigs into his hungry mouth to keep him running, swipe trees to run across streams, pull up rooted vegetable monsters, tap on coins to earn currency, and place your finger on the screen to block out deadly rays of sunshine from hitting the hapless creature. And that’s all in the first level.

The pace is relentless, the music is charmingly French, as Le Vamp is set in the French countryside, of course. The coins will let you purchase magic and upgrades like Sunblock, Bacon Cologne (attracts pigs), and Super Fingers to help you get the diminutive vampire away from the angry mob.

“Le Vamp has seen such a phenomenal response from the iTunes community,” said CEO Kerry J. Ganofsky, “and we want to give back the best way we know how. And what better way than going free for a limited time to celebrate the success we’ve had so far?”

Le Vamp is a universal app, meaning you can play it on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and it’s free through the first of August. Why not give it a try, ne c’est pas?
