The Griffin PowerDock 5, A Gadget Gas Station For Technophiles

Why does Steppenwolf’s “Born to be Wild” buzz through my head when I look at the Griffin PowerDock 5? Because the five-port docking station reminds me of one of those old roadside gas stations out on the desert highway.

Get all five of your motors running.

Each of the USB ports outputs 10 watts and 2.1 amps, a high enough octane even for the thirsty iPad (the iPhone only requires a quarter that amperage, or 500 milliamps).

Griffin says the PowerDock 5’s slots are wide enough to accommodate even its beast-like Survivor case — which means you could probably fit anything in there. Those grooves running down the center of each slot look like they’d make a nice niche for the edge of an iPad, but they might be compatible with most Android tablets of the Microsoft Surface too.

The PowerDock 5 begins shipping this week with a price tag of $100.
