Photoful Organizes Your iPhone Pictures With A Useful Elegance

If you’re growing tired of the way iOS 6 keeps your photos together in one big shoebox of sorts, only letting you categorize photos and create albums manually, there’s a new app out that will help you do much more than that, and it’s free to boot.

Photoful is a new, free app that offers something of what you can expect to find in the upcoming iOS 7 version of Apple’s own Photos: an elegant, good-looking, well-designed app focused on helping you organize and display your camera photos in a better way.

This free photos app looks a lot like the new Photos app in the upcoming iOS 7, what with the flatter design and automatic sorting of photos into categories based on time, date, or location. It goes a step or two further, as well, offering open integration for other photo apps, even more powerful organization features, and some really nice gestural features that might remind you more of Clear or Mailbox. There’s a short promotional video that you can see over at Vimeo to get a better idea of how it looks in action.

The app itself syncs with your iPhones Camera Roll, and breaks up your photos by the day they were taken. There’s a stream view for just browsing through all of your images, and you can delete photos with a simple flick and toss gesture. You can navigate via date, or album name, itself customizable with a single tap. There’s even hashtag support, letting you intuitively catalog the photos in your collection.

Of course, there’s also built-in editing and photo effects, as pretty much every photo taking app–including Apple’s–seems to have these days.

While Photoful won’t be a full Photos replacement, due to iOS 6 restrictions against that sort of thing, it seems like it could be a useful way to get some of the new features coming up in iOS 7 now, and then some. It’s free, so why not check it out yourself in the App Store?
