Arrrr! Avast, ye scurrilous sea quims! Why are you even reading this? Go download Scurvy Scallywags right now! It’s hilarious, addictive, cheap and the best game to come to iOS in recent memory.

Need to know more? Fine, but you’re only cheating yourself out of more Scurvy Scallywags.

Scurvy Scallywags is a new iOS game by the legendary Ron Gilbert, the hysterical weirdo behind classic adventure games like Monket Island, Maniac Mansion, and Double Fine’s fantastic recent title, The Cave.

Gilbert’s known for his sense of humor, and Scurvy Scallywags has it in abundance. The game — a musical Match-3 with RPG elements sort of like Puzzle Quest, in which you match gold, grog, parrots, and buried treasure — is wrapped up in a Pirates of Penzance style framing mechanism, in which you are putting on a truly ridiculous play about piracy with some extraordinarily bizarre lunatics as your fellow thespians.

The game is far too charming and addictive for words to really spell it out. Far better that you check out Touch Arcade‘s hands-on gameplay to get a taste:

The official trailer gives a pretty good taste of it too:

In all seriousness, I could barely tear myself away from Scurvy Scallywags all morning. Not only is it a fantastically addictive game, it’s also a real day brightener. And best of all, it’s a steal at $0.99.
