EA has confirmed that it is developing a mobile version of its Frostbite game engine called Frostbite Go for Android and iOS. The engine will empower “EA game developers with Frostbite’s proven excellent workflows and features to bring true Frostbite experiences to all major mobile platforms,” EA says on its website.

Frostbite is used to power some of EA’s best console titles, including Battlefield and Need for Speed, so the prospect of seeing it on mobile is a mouthwatering thought for any handheld gamer. Unfortunately, we don’t yet know when Frostbite Go will arrive, or what titles will ship with it.

This is what the company has to say about Frostbite Go on its website:

One of our most exciting current projects is called Frostbite Go, a mobile division empowering EA game developers with Frostbite’s proven excellent workflows and features to bring true Frostbite experiences to all major mobile platforms.

Rumors surrounding Frostbite Go first began circulating last October when EA studio DICE began looking for mobile software developers who could take Frostbite to “the next level.” The Frostbite Go name was then confirmed back in April when DICE Program Manager Kristoffer Benjamin mentioned it on Twitter.
