If you’re a fan of Lucas Arts and Sierra Games adventure games like Grim Fandango, The Dig, Monkey Island, or King’s Quest, you’ll dig this fun game from Replay Games, Inc. Fester Mudd: Curse of the Gold, Episode 1 is a spot-on tribute to the gaming days of yore, with hilarious writing, painterly-yet-pixelly artwork, and some quirky puzzles to solve with various items needing to be used with various other items.

It’s also by the guys who are working on the upcoming Leisure Suit Larry remake for iOS, so you know it’s gonna be good.

Fester Mudd: Curse of the Gold is set in the wild west, and will continue for three full episodes. Episode one, which is available now for a measly $0.99 in the App store, puts you in the role of the titular Mudd, searching for your long-lost treasure-seeking brother who has somehow gotten lost in his own travels. Mudd is a coward, lazy, and dimwitted who will need to outshine all of those things to solve the puzzles and find his brother, meeting a host of wacky characters and goofy situations along the way.

Fester Mudd: Curse of the Gold, Episode 1 is a universal app, letting you play on your iPad or iPhone with the same purchase. It will also save your game via iCloud, letting you pick up on one device where you left off on the other. It’s got all the fun you remember from the classic adventure games, with an original soundtrack, a cliffhanger ending like an old western serial drama, and a ton of jokes and gags that the team is well known for.

With a pedigree like the one at Replay Games, this one’s a no-brainer. Head on over to the App Store right now and slap your dollar on the saloon table. Grab yourself a copy of this love letter to the classic gaming genre of the 90s, brought to the most popular devices of the 2010s.
