Apple’s Back to School promotion has begun in Australia and New Zealand ahead of the new school year. Like previous years, the promotion offers a free gift card with new Macs and iOS devices purchased for education, and it’s open to students, parents, and teachers. This year’s deal includes the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro, the iMac and the Mac Pro, and the iPad with Retina display.

The Back to School promotion is identical to that held in North America and Europe last June. Available to any student, parent, or teacher of a K-12 or higher education school, the deal runs between January 15 and April 1.

Almost all Macs are included in the deal — except for the Mac mini — and refurbished products are eligible, too. Those who pick up a new Mac will receive a A$100 Student Gift Card, which can be spent on apps and books to help them with their studies, or music and movies to keep them entertainment in their free time.

The iPad with Retina display is also included in the deal, and it comes with a A$50 Student Gift Card. It’s the only iOS device that’s part of the promotion, with the iPad 2, iPad mini, and refurbished iPads all left out.

Apple’s older Back to School deals saw students given a free iPod touch when they purchased a new Mac, but in recent years, the Cupertino company has scrapped this in favor of the gift card.
