The IMDb app is one of my favorites on the iPad, so I was pleased to see that it received a pretty big update today with a lot of new features. Version 3.0 brings a new user interface that focuses on showcasing movies and TV shows in a visually appealing way. There’s a full-featured Watchlist and recommendations that are tailored to each user.

The general experience of browsing photos and lists has been greatly improved and goes hand in hand with the revamped interface. The iPhone version of IMDb has received a little love too.

The main window looks like the iTunes Store with a big marquee for trailers. You can scroll through curated lists like “Coming Soon,” and top news stories are also available. A panel on the left of your screen houses your account info and other links. You can access it by tapping the IMDb logo.

Signing in your IMBd account will now generate personalized recommendations, like Genius in iTunes. The app’s Watchlist boasts custom lists with the full ability to edit and sort titles how you see fit. Like Netflix, you can tap a ‘plus’ sign next to any movie or TV show to instantly add it to your Watchlist.

On the iPhone, iOS 6’s native Facebook sharing has been enabled. Filmographies now include details for individual TV episodes, and you can quickly navigate to a related image gallery from any photo or poster you come across.

Amazon owns IMDb, which is a fact many probably not know. On iOS and Android, the official IMDb app has been downloaded over 50 million times.

You can grab IMDb 3.0 in the App Store now.
