iLap MacBook Desk-Stand [Ends Soon!]

Contrary to the name, putting a laptop on your lap, isn’t actually a great idea. Laptops can get rather warm, not to mention it’s impossible for air to get below your laptop to help keep it cool (do you think Apple made these glorious devices out of aluminum just for kicks and giggles?). Likewise laptops just on a desk or table not only don’t let the machines cool as well as they could, but they aren’t terribly comfortable to work at for long periods of time.

It’s pretty hard to find a device that works great on your lap and on a desk (believe me, I’ve looked and there aren’t many), which is where the iLap comes in.

Only available in the Continental U.S.

You might think that the iLap isn’t an nice in the pictures, but actually I think it’s better. When I worked for an Apple retailer we stocked them (and other products by Rain which I was able to use) and these are elegant, well-built devices. The iLap is made out aluminum so it not only matches your MacBook, but it’s also great a dissipating the heat from your MacBook (one of those handy things about aluminum). The iLap works in two modes (many more, but let’s just talk about the modes they recommend), lap and desk. There’s a nice (padded) adjustable leg in the back to adjust the tilt of the desk plus a removable pad for the front as well. So, you put your MacBook on your desk and use and external keyboard, you might not want the front pad. But on your lap you have the front pad on so in combination with the back pad you have a nice, comfortable resting spot for your MacBook (with the bonus of not searing your legs!).

The only down side of this deal is that it only ships to the Continental U.S., so your $45 (with free shipping) is well spent if you’re in the Lower 48.

And you should get while the getting is good, because it’s only running until Sunday!
