FileMaker Launches Developer Certification Program For FileMaker 12

FileMaker has announced the availability of its FileMaker 12 Certification exam. As with other certifications for IT professionals, FileMaker’s certification illustrates to potential employers or consulting customers that you have the key skills to deliver a solid and complete solution using FileMaker Pro and related products like FileMaker Go for iPhone and iPad and FileMaker Server.

FileMaker offers a self-study training package for both new and experienced developers planning to take the certification exam. That package consists of 13 topic modules covered by an 800 page guide to the FileMaker 12 family of products and instructional videos. The package can be purchased as an ebook and digital video set for $19.99 or as a printed book and DVD for $39.99.

Additional and more in-depth instructor-led training is also available for from a series of FileMaker authorized trainers and training centers.

The following areas of FileMaker development are tested in the 64 question certification exam.

  • Knowing the product technical specifications
  • Defining database schema
  • Building layouts
  • Working with calculations
  • Writing scripts
  • Securing FileMaker systems
  • Deploying database solutions via Server, using best practices
  • Data integration and data movement
  • Publishing FileMaker data on the web
  • Using development tools and processes
  • Creating and deploying database for iPad and iPhone

Some general database architecture subjects related to FileMaker development are also tested during the exam. These topics include XML, xDBC, networking technology, web basics, SQL basics, and database architecture basics.

As with many certification exams, the FileMaker 12 exam is offered through Prometric testing centers around world. The fee to take the exam is $150.
