Woo-hoo for landscape view!

It’s taken a good three months, but Words With Friends HD has finally gained support for the new iPad. The version 5.0 update, which just hit the App Store this morning — now comes with high-resolution artwork optimized for the Retina display, and support for landscape orientation.

That’s two long-awaited updates in one update. You can’t complain at that.

Version 5.0 delivers some great changes to the user interface, too. While you’re playing a game in portrait view, you can swipe to the right to display the sidebar with all of the games you’re currently involved in, or swipe to the left to see the chat box. In landscape view, the game board hovers above the side bar and the chat box, and you can slide it back and forth to access each side.

As you’d expect, the game board is slightly smaller in landscape view, but it’s certainly not too small. And with those new Retina graphics, everything is as clear as can be.

In addition to these changes, this update brings enhanced app security, and bug fixes and optimizations.
