Angry Birds Space gains a laser sight to guide your birds

Angry Birds Space has just survived re-entry and is now in the App Store for just $1. The new Angry Birds, despite the release of the Seasons and Rio editions, is the true sequel to probably the most popular iOS game ever. Also, it rocks.

Angry Birds Space is available for Mac ($5), iPhone ($1) and iPad ($3), as well as Android and PC, has 60 levels, new birds and something called the Danger Zone. This is an in-app purchase and consists of “30 of the most difficult levels EVER.” I haven’t yet been able to determine whether the section features music by Kenny Loggins.

The Space theme means that you’ll be shooting birds around planets in zero gravity. Or rather, pockets of varying gravity. Thus, you can have your birds loop in a figure-eight around two tiny planets.

There are also new birds, and the old ones have been given a makeover. No word yet on whether those dumb boomerang birds made it into orbit. I sure hope not.

One thing that makes the game quite a bit easier to play is the new laser sight. This beams from the birdies’ eyes and shows you what path their flight will take. It only shows the initial trajectory, so there is still work to be done in aiming just right, but it takes out some skill.

So what are you waiting for? If you’re an Angry Birds fan (and who isn’t?) then you should go grab this sequel right now. And who knows? Maybe it will even help you forget the abortion that was Angry Birds Rio.
