It’s never been easier (or as cheap) to translate words and phrases between over 60 languages than it is with the free Google Translate app for iOS. Simply select the language you require, type or speak your phrase, then wait while Google does the hard work. Here’s how to get started.

Download the free Google Translate app from the App Store; it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Once installed, open it up and select with languages you’d like to translate your text between using the buttons at the top of the app. Those that feature a microphone next to them support the speech functionality, which will read text out to you.

Once you have selected your languages, you have two options for entering your text. Either type it into the text box, or tap the microphone button to speak. You can also paste text that you have copied from other apps.

Now that your text has been translated, you can use the star to save your phrase, the speaker to hear it spoken, or the expand button to see it full-screen.
