EA’s next major console title, Mass Effect 3, is set to grace game stores in the U.S. on March 6, and will be accompanied by an iOS app called Mass Effect Infiltrator that promises to “increase a player’s Galactic Readiness rating.”

The release is said to be an action-based third-person shooter, which will directly affect one of the main game’s elements. And yes, this release is expected to be considerably better than EA’s last Mass Effect title for iOS, which was a huge disappointment to Mass Effect fans.

The company’s press release explains:

Take the all-out galactic war in Mass Effect 3 on-the-go with Infiltrator, a fully-featured iOS third-person shooter showcasing stunning graphics and authentic weapons and powers from the Mass Effect series.

Inspired by the deep and immersive Mass Effect 3 universe, in Infiltrator players will help to free prisoners from a hostile Cerberus base and will receive rewards for collecting evidence of Cerberus’ crimes along the way. Every completed rescue and intelligence discovery in Infiltrator will increase a player’s Galactic Readiness rating directly through the Galaxy at War system in Mass Effect 3.

Furthermore, Shacknews reports the iOS game will unlock “exclusive weaponry” you can enjoy in the main game.

The title will be available for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad “soon,” EA promises.
