Create 360° Panoramic Videos On Your iPhone 4 And 4S With The GoPano Micro [CES 2012]

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Debuting here at CES 2012, the GoPano Micro ($80) is an odd-looking little device that lets you record 360° panoramic videos on your iPhone 4 and 4S. You can then scroll around those videos in a way similar to how you move around in Google Maps street view, watching your video from a ton of different angles and perspectives.

It’s actually a lot cooler than it sounds, and would be really fun to use at frat parties with all your high-fivin’ mega-bros. Or at concerts. Or on family vacations.

Sharing your new videos is a snap too. You can easily upload your movies from the free GoPano app directly to Facebook or to the GoPano website. Youtube isn’t an option though; they don’t support these kinds of non-standard recordings. Boo.

Wow.  That’s ungainly looking.  Seems like one of those doodads you buy, use once, and then relegate it to the junk drawer.  Must be pretty low-res too.  After all you’re only using a fraction of the available pixels for the entire 360 degree image.  Meh!

For anyone curious, there are video samples on the gopano website. Yes they aren’t HD quality but they are quite cool.

The quality of these mirror device panos has always been very dismal.  But this sounds fun for when you don’t need professional quality… or any quality really.

  • Figurative

Agreed.  Quality is very poor.  If you want to fool around with panoramas on your iPhone you’re MUCH better off with Microsoft PhotoSynth or one of the other stitching apps.

Cool now my phone can have a 1800’s hearing aid attached to it.
