Untethered Jailbreak For iOS 5.0.1 Is Finished

iOS hacker and Chronic Dev-Team member Pod2g is making quite a name for himself right now as he works away on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. According to his latest blog posts, he has now completed the code for an untethered jailbreak on all A4-powered devices, suggesting a public release of the exploit isn’t too far away.

Devices powered by Apple’s A4 processor include the iPhone 4, the fourth-generation iPod touch, the first-generation iPad, and the second-generation Apple TV — all of which can be jailbroken with Pod2g’s latest exploit when running iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1:

iPad 1 5.0.1 untethered code is done, testing tomorrow with a friend’s device. Just to let you know my progress in real time. iPhone 3GS 5.0.1 untethered code is done. Testing tomorrow also! iPod 4G 5.0.1 untethered too ! :o ). Apple TV 2 4.43 untethered done also. Will be able to test in some days.

While the iPhone 4 isn’t mentioned in Pod2g’s blog post above, he has previously confirmed that this hack is complete.

This is great new for those who are itching to get their hands on an untethered jailbreak for Apple’s latest iOS software, and it suggests a public release of this exploit shouldn’t be too far away now. The same can’t be said, however, for A5 powered devices — that’s the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.

I like stock iOS on my iPhone. If I had an iPod, I’d probably jailbreak that.

I think to make things fair they shouldnt release it until the 4S and ipad 2 jailbreak is released. I mean older versions already have a tethered and semi tethered JB. Thats more than enough. You have to boot it up on your comp every time it dies….boo hoo!!! I had a tethered JB on my old iphone 4 for the longest time and it was no big deal.

If you’d like to dictate when and how a jailbreak method is released, perhaps you should start working on finding your own exploit to leverage.

Remember that this work is being done and provided to the jailbreak community for FREE.  Also remember that the A4 chip is easier to jailbreak and the exploit may eventually be used for the A5 chip. pod2G had mentioned that he didn’t have an iPhone 4S and iPad 2, so it remains to be seen if his untethered jailbreak works on iOS devices powered by the A5 processor.

lol I agree with you Melissa. I would way rather have a tethered JB than no JB at all. I wish I would have waited on the 4S till a JB came out, its a little boring without a JB. I hope these guys release a A5 JB soon because the galaxy nexus is looking pretty tempting right about now.

fucker! so u want millions of people to wait for the untethered jb  on iphone 4s while the unethered jb is basically done for any other idevice? selfish biatch

You sound like an iPad2 or 4S owner

  • jamiegalbreath

    what about siri?

I am indeed an ipad2/4S owner and im a bitch yet old ios owners are the ones bitching about untethered when they ALREADY have 2 jailbreaks??? Grow up. And i do indeed contribute to jailbreaks. I have basic hacking knowledge thanks to my dad and send whatever I find over to the dev team over the years. Not all hackers have to be guys you know.

  • JayeDee369

Okay, really dude? Could you guys stop with the false advertising headlines!

  • Daniel Goldenberg

I agree! Im not a fan of the 4S, im still an iphone 4 owner but im content with my tethered jailbreak. I find alot less bugs with it. People in general are just never happy with what they have. I believe that they should delay the untethered release not just to be fair but for financial reasons as well. People are more likely to donate when theyve waited so long. And besides like mentioned theres already 2 fucking jailbreaks. I believe us “old ios users” can wait a bit longer :P

As a heads up no one said us male species are the only worldly hackers but pretty girls usually arnt so Silent Phart had an ignorant but nonetheless fair judgement lol.

I guess so…. I donate $200 twice a  year regardless lol. Even my sons ipad 2 took almost a year to jailbreak :P I keep it on 4.4.3 just so i can keep the JB. Im sure at 19 months old he doesnt give a crap about ios 5 lol.

I’m a newbie and have a question… i Have an iphone4 running on ios 5.0.1 but in in parenthesis it says (9A405).. what jailbreak can i use?
