Adobe has announced that it will add support for the iOS 5 Newsstand to its Digital Publishing Suite. This will provide an easy way for publishers to take advantage of the delivery system that Apple has established in the Newsstand iOS 5 app.

Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite customers will be able to deliver high quality content optimized for iOS right to the virtual doorstep of Newsstand subscribers.

Todd Teresi, vice president and general manager, Media Solutions, Adobe:

“Adobe technology is fundamental to the transformation taking place across publishing and now readers will be able to easily obtain their magazine and newspaper subscriptions in one location and get access to the latest issue as soon as it is published, further accelerating magazine adoption on tablet devices.

Publishers will be able to use Digital Publishing Suite to create files that are detected by Newsstand and automatically downloaded to the Newsstand shelf, eliminating long download times which can present a barrier to reading content on iPad devices. Applications built with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite and enabled for Newsstand will allow publishers to better merchandise their content with support for Newsstand push notifications and icon covers displayed on the Newsstand shelf, reflecting the latest issue of the magazine or newspaper.”

Adobe is making a good move by supporting Newsstand out of the gate. Apple is set to take digital magazine and news subscriptions to a whole other level with Newsstand in iOS 5, and the 600+ titles created on Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite will be a huge gain for iOS users.

While Apple’s 30% cut of subscription rates will certainly deter certain publication houses, many content creators have already jumped on board with Apple’s model for delivering subscription content to customers through Newsstand.
