Thank You, Steve Jobs.

We all reacted with surprise and disbelief today as we heard the news you were resigning as CEO of Apple. Anyone who follows Apple in even a cursory fashion knows that you have not been well, so the news was not entirely unexpected. But still quite sudden, and reaction has been swift around the world.

Few people have been as influential and as iconic as you have during your career. From the Apple II to the Macintosh, NeXTSTEP to Mac OS X, the iPod, iPhone and the iPad, few people have brought more innovation to the world and touched the lives of so many people. You and Apple have changed the face of personal computing many times over. This has not always been uncontroversial – and we have not always agreed – but nearly everyone can appreciate the impact of the achivements.

Many words will be written about what your stepping down means, how much the stock price will be affected, and what this means for Apple’s future. I suppose we shall see – as you will too, with your continued involvement as Chairman of the Board. As you note, Apple’s most innovative days may yet be to come.

But for now: thank you, Steve. For daring to dream, and bring your vision to the world. For not being afraid to make changes, teaching us to Think Different, and being Insanely Great.

From all of us at Cult of Mac, we wish you well, and the best of health.
