The Today Show took a peek in one of China’s faux Apple stores and it looks just as convincing as the photo gallery we published.

But the publicity is proving unwanted for the copycat stores, who don’t seem to understand exactly what the problem is.

“I was very sad when the report first came out,” says one sales associate, shot from the chest down with a fake Apple T-shirt logo because she didn’t want to show her face on camera. “I think some of the media has distorted the facts.”

The store manager, who also didn’t want to appear on camera, says the products are real and come with Apple’s warranty. But says that now the owners are applying for an official Apple reseller license.

Apple has yet to comment on the knock-off shops, though two out of five have been closed down.

A lawyer interviewed says the phony stores infringe on Apple’s “trademark look,” but that the Chinese are so eager for the Cupertino company’s products they don’t care where they buy them, as long as they work.

I bought an iPhoney and 30 minutes later it melted… I pretty sure my McBook Phro is legit though.

That’s just terrible. All of those fake Apple Stores should be shut down and those people who worked in them should go to jail. That’s not right to create a copy of a famous company’s store and then not have it be official.

The usual idea is that you would use NFC to set up the link between the two devices and then do an automatic hand over to a different protocol for doing the actual transfer of data – eg Bluetooth, iphone 5
