iPhone 4 Is Flickr’s Most Popular Digital Camera… And It Might Just Be The World’s Too

If you’re shooting a photo and uploading it to Flickr, chances are good that it’s on an iPhone 4, as Apple’s iconic smartphone has officially surpassed the Nikon D90 as the most popular camera on Yahoo’s photo sharing site.

Why? It all boils down to convenience. The cliché is trite but true: the best camera is the one you have with you, and while the iPhone 4’s 5MP camera sensor is grainy and frugal in its light sipping, and while it has no glass to speak of, it’s always in your pocket, its subsidized by your phone company and it’s always connected to the Internet. Sharing on an SLR requires plugging your camera in; sharing from your iPhone just means tapping an app button. It’s the easiest thing in the world.

I’d imagine that as far as analog cameras are concerned, there’s some venerable classics like the Polaroid that are still more popular than the iPhone 4, at least in aggregate, but given this data from Flickr, I wouldn’t be surprised if the iPhone 4 was now the most popular digital camera in the world. What do you think?
