Apple Devotes Entire Home Page To Jerome York Obituary

20100318-york.jpg

If ever you needed a sign that Apple was a different kind of technology company, this is it.
What other computer manufacturer would remove its top-selling, hype-inducing, industry-altering new product from the prime spot on its website home page, and replace it with an obituary to an investor?
This is one of those “Here’s to the [...]

Coming Soon: Steve Jobs, the Sitcom

Fake Steve creator Dan Lyons just signed a deal to bring Steve Jobs to another small screen near you.
The half-hour series called “iCon” is billed by the presser as “a savage satire centering on a fictional Silicon Valley CEO whose ego is a study in power and greed.”
Making sure the barbs prick will be the [...]

What’s Next For the iPad? A Tabletop iPad, According to Xerox PARC Circa 1991

Way back in 1991, just as Apple was transitioning from 68k to PowerPC chips, the braniacs at Xerox PARC were predicting it’s entire iPod, iPhone and iPad strategy. And next up for the iPad is a blackboard-sized device.
Nearly 20 years ago, just as personal desktop computers were taking off, researchers at Xerox started thinking about [...]

iPhone App Arms Users With Silent Panic Button

A new app called Silent Bodyguard features a panic button that sends an SOS distress signal with GPS coordinates to potential rescuers without alerting onlookers.
While the $3.99 app, available on iTunes, isn’t the first ICE (in case of emergency) app, this one is backed by Dr. Clint Van Zandt, former FBI chief hostage negotiator and criminal [...]

Zune/OS X Users Unite With One Voice!

zune-20081217.jpg

Over at Crave, Matt Hickey has published a little list of the technological things he wants to see fixed by ol’ Father Christmas.

And first among them, top of his list, is…

… wait for it …

… a Zune client for OS X!

After all, says Matt, “the Zune is a fantastic media player and is in many ways superior to the iPod.”

Damn right! That’s why you see so many using Zunes all over the place these days. Can’t MOVE for the things.

Strikes me that thousands of Zune + OS X users – many of them regular readers of this here Cult – will be overjoyed by the suggestion. I expect all of them to say so in the comments.

Guys?

Hello?

    What’s a Zune?

That’s a nice picture of a sardine can.

    Har har har! I’m funny.

I’ve always looked to Bill Gates for fashion tips. That Zune…it is soooo, you knoowww, soooo groovy. … I love brown … I hear it is the new white.

My wife’s new car [bought it today] has a Zune Integration kit, as most of these models. Oops, it iPod, not Zune! My bad. Has anyone heard of a Zune ready car?

    Guys?

    Hello?

That’s a Zune? I thought they were extinct?

    Zune Schmune.

“Damn right! That’s why you see so many using Zunes all over the place these days. Can’t MOVE for the things.”

As a long time mac users most of us got very defensive in the old days when people used this exact same argument against the Mac. “The Mac cannot be good. PCs out number it 20 to 1.” We knew this argument was bogus.

Let us not be guilty of disparaging the Zune simply because it has low market share. The Zune sucks for other reasons. We do not need to use logical fallacies to denounce it.

    Do they still make Zunes????

“Zune/OS X users unite with one voice!” Of course they do, that’s because there’s only ONE OF THEM. All that person has to do is fool around with an iPod Touch and he won’t even remember he has a Zune.

They might sell more if they renamed it the “iZune” or “zPod”. I mean if you’re gonna copy it, you might as well go the whole way.

In fact, they might as well go the full monty an release “Windows Leopard”

I got a free zune last year and I love it. It is the only reason I still use parallels for xp. I would love to see a zune client on osx. I hear songbird compatibility for the zune will be coming in a year or so and I can’t wait!

A Zune client for the Mac?

For those that can’t remember back before the iPod, ALL of the mp3 players were incompatible with the Mac. Not just one, not some, ALL! They were incompatible or were barely useable with Macs. Then the iPod came along.

The Zune wants to go back to those “good ole days”. If The Zune or Creative or any of the other mp3 makers wanted they could make a client for the Mac, make a client that has access to Amazon and Napster and whoever else. Instead they want to bitch and moan that their hardware doesn’t work with iTunes.

If they want people to switch, or at least give non-iPod players a chance then they need to step up to the plate and compete against the iPod/iTunes combination and stop making excuses and claiming that Apple doesn’t play fair.

What’s pictured in that photo? Is that Zune? What is Zune?

hehe, zune. its just funny soundin. zune.

    Funny lookin paperweight there…

Anyone stupid enough to get an apple computer, is going to follow their hipster friends and get a ipod to match.

Microsoft is smart enough to not waste their time on them, and this is why there isn’t a OSX client.

Yes, John, because all of the big name design companies employ solely hipsters.

Steve Wozniak’s looking pretty hip right now too.

I am dying for this. I have a Zune 120gb. It’s wonderful. I’ve had ipods and I love the Zune so much more. I just wish it worked with OS X!!!
