I knew I was old the moment I realized that the foundation of my every Sunday’s pleasure was wandering down to the newsstand and picking up the latest issue of the Economist, so I’m both a little sad and a little delighted to note that I’ll no longer have to make that journey: the Economist is coming to the iPhone and iPad.

According to that venerable publication, the Economist app for iPhone and iPad will debut on the App Store on Friday. The best news about the Economist app is the pricing structure: it’ll be totally free to all current print and online subscribers, and I’d imagine that non-subscribers will get a dash of free content in there as well, a la the website.

The Economist has been fiercely pro-iPad lately, having recently gone as far as to launch their last issue of the Intelligent Life quarterly as an iPad application. It’s a good time to be an old, economically-minded fogey, it seems… as long as you’ve got an iOS device.
