Instagram is gearing up to take on Vine by offering a new video sharing service, according to a source familiar with the plans. The move is expected to be announced on Thursday, June 20, during a mysterious Facebook press event at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

Here’s What Apple’s iOS 7 Beta Testers Are Reading On The Web
It’s not uncommon to see early versions of upcoming iOS and Mac releases pop up in server logs — we’ve seen occasional blips from iOS 7 and OS X 10.9 for a while now in our own server logs — but what is less common is actually looking over an iOS 7 beta tester’s shoulder and checking out what they’re interested in.
Yet that’s just what mobile site conversion company OnSwipe was able to do, analysing iOS 7 beta tester’s reading habits to get a better grip on what people at Apple are interested in.
Twitter Updates iOS App To Include Location-Based Trends And Better Vine Playback
Twitter’s default app for iPhone isn’t necessarily our favorite app for tweeting, but it appears Twitter is starting to get more serious about edging out its competition.
A new update for the Twitter app for iOS was just released today with a new location-based Trends feature. The update also includes the ability to invite friends to join Twitter, better playback on Vine videos, replies to retweets now have more information, and there’s some bug fixes too.
Here are the full release notes:
Vine Will Now Let You Use The iPhone’s Front-Facing Camera To Record Selfies
Ever tried to record a selfie on Vine? Normally, it’s been a pain in the ass ever since the app came out, because you couldn’t use your iPhone’s front-facing camera, but times are a changin’ as the app is now ready to help you record all your vain selfies from the comfort of your front-facing camera.
The days of awkwardly clutching your iPhone infront of you while pressing the record button on the other side are over. A new version of Vine just hit the App Store and it includes the ability to use the front-facing camera on your iPhone. Oh, and you can finally mention people in posts and comments now too.
The free update for Vine 1.1 is available in the App Store now.

Hollywood Is Starting To Take Vine Seriously
Vine is being used to tell stories at The Tribeca Film Festival, an event founded by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal. The festival takes place later this month, and there’s a competition for ultra-short films shot exclusively on Vine, Twitter’s video sharing app for the iPhone.
Aspiring filmmakers have been submitting Vines to Tribeca under the #6SECFILMS hashtag on Twitter. The submissions that make the cut will be highlighted on the festival’s website later this month and receive a cash prize.
Apple Now Displays App Store Age Ratings Right Next To App Icons
Apple has made a small change to the way in which App Store age ratings are displayed to make them a little easier to find. They’re now displayed alongside app icons on iOS devices — just under the name of the developer — so they’re not so easy to miss when you’re downloading new apps.
Vine Updated With Enhanced Twitter And Facebook Sharing, Video Embedding For Web
Twitter has a released an update to its video sharing service Vine that adds a couple of new features. You can now quickly share videos taken by other people in your feed on Twitter and Facebook. Just tap the ellipsis on the bottom right of a video and then “Share this post.”
Another addition is the ability to embed Vine videos on the web like tweets. Anything in your Vine feed can be embedded with the new option. Getting the actual embed code is a little clunky in the app right now. Tapping “Embed” in the iOS app creates an email with instructions to use the code on the web. You can choose from the “Simple” and “Postcard” frames along with the width of the actual video.
Today’s update also includes some bug fixes, so be sure to grab it for free in the App Store.

Vimeo Buys Echograph To Try To Take Down Vine
Vimeo — one of the last true alternatives to YouTube left in this crazy digital world — has just acquired Echograph, a nifty app to make animated GIFs, in an attempt to go to head with Twitter’s Vine, an app that deals entirely in six-second video snips.
Vine Is Now Rated 17+ To Save You From The #Porn Tag
Remember all the stupidity about 500px getting pulled from the iOS App Store because it was possible to see artful photographs of professional models exposing body parts that literally every person on the Earth has underneath their clothes? Which was all the more hysterical because Apple’s “Editor’s Choice” at the time was Vine, an app in which you are just a click of the #porn tag away from seeing an endless stream of anonymous masturbators wave their foreskins at you?
Well, 500px solved its problem with Apple by adopting a 17+ iTunes rating, and now Vine is doing the same.
Has Your iPhone Ever Ruined Or Saved You On A Date? [Let’s Talk]
My iPhone is magical. It can do all kinds of crazy stuff to help me with dates, like finding the best sushi place, directions to a park, and nearby events.
The problem with my iPhone being so damn fantastic is that a lot of times on dates I’m too engrossed with what’s happening in the digital world, that it distracts me from the real life gorgeous woman sitting across the table from me.
I don’t know how many times it’s happened that I’ll be sitting in a restaurant and take out my iPhone because I’m bored. It’s become a nervous tick. I’ll chuckle at something and say, “Holy shit, did you see this hilarious Vine that Matt just posted?” And then she rolls her eyes at me, and I apologize, and the mood is destroyed with no hope of me ever getting any action or advancing the relationship further.
I’m not alone, right? I’m sure a lot of our readers have some amazing horror stories of using their iPhones on dates, and we’d love to hear them. Come over to the Cult of Mac Forums and tell us all about the worst, or best, experiences you’ve had when your iPhone has gotten mixed up in your love life.

Tweetbot’s Latest iOS Update Brings Support For Chrome, 1Password, Flickr & Vine
Cult of Mac’s favorite iOS Twitter client, Tweetbot, has just received a sweet new update that adds link support for 1Password and Chrome, as well as embedded previews for Flickr and Twitter’s new video service, Vine.
VineGifR Turns Vines Into GIFS
I have a history of losing money when I bet on my own predictions, so if you’re smart you should probably ignore this one: Vine – Twitter’s video-sharing app – will wither and die. Animated GIFs, on the other hand, have already managed to outlive MySpace and GeoCities, so it’s a safe bet (even for me) that they’ll keep on keeping on.
Which is all a rather roundabout way of introducing VineGifR, a Mac app which will take your futureless Vines and GIF-ify them.
Tumblr iOS App Follows Vine and 500px Into 17+ Rating Territory
The Tumblr iOS app updated about three hours ago, stating “small bug fixes” as what’s new in the app. This move comes shortly after 500px app was pulled from the app store, only to return with a 17+ rating, and Twitter-owned Vine got some flack as well.
What’s not listed in the App description is that version 3.2.4 of the Tumblr app is now rated for people 17+, and users will need to click through a dialog that says they are old enough to use the app. Because that totally works.
500px Returns To The App Store, Now Rated 17+
It’s back! 500px — the photo sharing app that was yanked from the App Store last week for letting users check out artful, non-pornographic nudes — has returned to the App Store, with some changes to keep genitalia and nipples away from impressionable eyes.
How Should Apple React To Porn On Twitter’s Vine App?
You’ve probably seen quite a few headlines today about Twitter’s new Vine iPhone app displaying pornography. Vine went live in the App Store last week, and the video sharing service has garnered quite a bit of attention due to its parent company, Twitter.
Vine was made an Editors’ Choice by Apple in the App Store, but the app has been de-promoted following all the porn hubbub. Apple has yet to give an official comment on the issue or pull Vine from the App Store completely.
What does all this mean for Vine, and more importantly, the App Store’s policies on porn?

Vine Is Cool: Just Watch It Grow [Review]
Vine is a new, free toy from Twitter. It replaces text with video, but only six seconds of it at a time, shot instant-by-instant. And it’s much cooler than I expected it to be.
Twitter Releases Vine iPhone App For Sharing Short Videos
Twitter has released a new iPhone app in the App Store, and it’s called Vine. According to Twitter, “Vine is the best way to see and share life in motion. Create short, beautiful, looping videos in a simple and fun way for your friends and family to see.”
6-second clips can be uploaded to Twitter from the app, and you can play them back right in embedded tweets on the web and in Twitter’s official mobile apps.
