Twitter For iOS Update Makes It Easier To Track Conversations

By

twitter

Twitter released a new update for its iOS app that makes it easier for users to keep track of conversations between friends. To keep tabs on who’s saying what to whom and when, Twitter has added a blue line that connects conversations and displays replies to tweets in chronological order.

Conversations can now be expanded by tapping the blue line to see more replies from people you don’t follow. Twitter also added new notification settings and bug fixes.

Here’s a video on how the blue line works:

Facebook Login Update Makes It Harder For Apps To Spam Your Wall

By

facebooklogin

Using Facebook is usually one of the quickest ways to log in to apps and other services without creating an account, but there’s nothing more annoying on Facebook than giving an app access to your account only to have them post spam on your wall without permission.

Facebook announced today that it has finally come up with a solution by updating Facebook Login for mobile so that apps have to ask you separately for permission to post on your behalf.

The update should result in 31% faster load up times, too. And if you decide later that you really want to share all your progress from Kitchen Scramble, or any other apps, you can do that too.

Find My iPhone Icon Gets Updated For iOS 7, Breaks App For Non-Developers

By

findmyiPhoneicon

We’re a few weeks away from the final release of iOS 7, but it looks like Apple is starting to prep its non-stock apps with an iOS 7 update. This morning Apple released an update for Find My iPhone that comes with a new icon more fitting for iOS 7.

A few bug fixes were tossed in, but early reports claim the update has broken the app for non-developers, so we’d advise against updating right now. The new Find My iPhone icon was also added to the beta.iCloud.com homescreen, but hasn’t been updated on iCloud.com yet.

Yelp 7.0 Finally Lets You Write Reviews From Your iPhone

By

newyelp

Apple’s added a lot of Yelp integration into iOS over the past two years, but despite providing copious amounts of reviews for every restaurant in the U.S., the app hasn’t let you actually write a review from your iPhone.

Yelp 7.0 was just pushed to the App Store and now gives users the ability to write reviews from their iPhone. Now you can trash a restaurant’s king salmon tartare on taro chips while waiting for your waitress to bring a check. Not finished with your praise? You can save a draft and publish it later, too.

The free update is available on the App Store now.

By

infuse-main-ipad

Infuse is my favorite third-party media player for the iPhone and iPad. And until VLC for iOS returned to the App Store, there was really no competition. FireCore, the maker of Infuse, isn’t letting other apps get the last word. In today’s big update, Infuse has received a number of great features, including support for AirPlay and file transfers over Wi-Fi.

Twitter Updates iOS App With New Login Verification And Photo Galleries

By

twitterupdate

Twitter announced today that it is bringing a new verification process to its iOS and Android apps to improve security. The new feature allows you to protect your account with two-factor authentication that can be turned on and managed directly from the app, rather than having to depend on third-party SMS clients.

Along with beefing up security, Twitter also added a new gallery view that can be seen when you tap “view more photos’ from a profile, or by doing a photo search. Lists can be managed from within the app now, too.

You can read about all the engineering details that went into the new two-factor authentication on Twitter’s blog and grab the free update right now on the App Store.

Here are the release notes:

Tower Defense Sequel, ‘Kingdom Rush: Frontiers,’ Gets Rising Tides Update Today

By

Mmmmm, scurvy.
Mmmmm, scurvy.

Released last month, Kingdom Rush: Frontiers is the followup to the critically-acclaimed Kingdom Rush, one of my personal favorites in the Tower Defense genre, what with its cute little hand-drawn characters, wacky sense of humor, and some of the most finely-tuned tower defense levels I’ve ever played.

Kindgom Rush: Frontiers, then, just got a marine-flavored update today with six new nautical-themed creeps to defend against, two new heroes to deploy when things get rough, and some extra maps and achievements to keep you entertained far beyond the already stellar gameplay of the original release.

You can also schedule App Updates for later right from Notification Center.
You can also schedule App Updates for later right from Notification Center.

This is a neat little new detail in OS X Mavericks: if there are updates available for your system, the Notification will allow you to delay installing them for an hour, or until the evening when your system isn’t busy. And you can actually dismiss the damn thing now without it just immediately popping back up!

For other things new in OS X Mavericks, check out our gallery round-up.

Cancel Instead Of Pausing Your Mac App Store Updates [OS X Tips]

By

Cancel Update

When downloading updates in the Mac App Store, it’s a simple thing to start and pause your download. Make sure you’re logged into the correct iTunes account for the specific update, and hit the dark gray Update button when you’re ready. If you want to pause the download, simply hit the same button, which now says Pause.

But what if you want to completely cancel the download and start again later?

Luckily, this is a pretty simple thing to do.
