Tweetbot for Mac has been updated with large image/video thumbnails to match the recent update to its iOS counterpart. The thumbnail option can be turned off entirely in the display settings, but I’m not sure why you would want to do that because they look great.

The app also supports three finger left/right swipes in the timeline if your Mac’s trackpad is configured that way. Some bugs have been squashed as well, so be sure to get the update in the Mac App Store. Tweetbot costs $20.

Tweetbot is probably our favorite Twitter client for iOS, especially after Tweetbot 3 gave the app a major makeover for iOS 7.

It’s also one of our favorite Mac Twitter clients, but it tends to hover a bit behind Tweetbot for iPhone when it comes to features. A new update, however, narrows the gap a little bit, introducing a number of useful bug fixes. Don’t expect a major aesthetic overhaul, though.

Tweetbot for Mac has received a great new feature for keeping track of specific accounts. You can now receive custom notifications for individual Twitter users.

The app has also been updated with the ability to choose what kind of notifications appear in the dock or menubar icon. There’s timeline thumbnail support for Vine and Flickr, and a lot more.

Tweetbot for Mac received a little update today in the Mac App Store. The developers at Tapbots have added integration with Safari’s Reading List feature. Like Pocket and Instapaper, you can now save links found in Tweetbot and send them directly to Apple’s iCloud-based read later service. You can login to Reading List using your iCloud credentials in the Tweetbot for Mac preferences pane. The articles you save can be viewed directly in Safari on any iOS 6 or OS X Mountain Lion device.

Tapbots, the company behind Tweetbot for iOS and Mac, has announced that the Tweetbot for Mac Alpha is no longer available as a public download. Tweetbot for Mac has been gearing up to enter the public beta stage before its official release in the Mac App Store, but Twitter’s new restrictions have forced Tapbots to remove the download link for the Tweetbot for Mac Alpha.

Several updates have been pushed out to Mac users running Tweetbot since Tapbots released the alpha on July 11th. Existing users can keep using the app, but everyone else will be left out in the cold until the app goes on sale in the Mac App Store.

Over the weekend I noticed that the Tweetbot for Mac Alpha was no longer working on the Tapbots website, and today’s news reveals the reason.

Now that's a Twitter client.
Now that's a Twitter client.

The Tweetbot for Mac Alpha just got its coolest update yet. A version released today brings multiple columns for different timelines that can float freely or attach to each other and form a Twitter command center of awesomeness. The update packs other features too, like a menu bar interface, geotagged tweets, and Notification Center integration with multiple Twitter accounts at once.

When Tapbots finally released its highly-anticpated Tweetbot Twitter client on the Mac, the software was labeled as a free Alpha. This means that the developers are continuing to add major new features and bug fixes leading up to the official 1.0 release in the Mac App Store. In fact, users are warned before downloading that there could be major bugs, and all Alpha testers are encouraged to submit bug reports to Tapbots.

Over the weekend, the first update was released for the Tweetbot for Mac Alpha, and the update packs several new features and improvements.

Hatch Tweetbot for Mac’s Egg Icon Into A Blue Robot Bird [How-To]

Get rid of that alpha egg and get the bird icon Tweetbot for Mac before it hatches.
Get rid of that alpha egg and get the bird icon Tweetbot for Mac before it hatches.

One of the many clever little touches accompanying last week’s official unveiling of the Tweetbot alpha for Mac was the icon: signifying’s the app’s alpha status, the blue robotic bird icon we all know and love on iOS was replaced with a metallic silver egg. Get it? Because it’s still not hatched.

I still love that joke, and it’s a great example of the little things Tapbots does that sets them apart from the rest… but I have to say, over the course of the last week using Tweetbot as my Mac Twitter client, I’ve missed having Tweetbot’s iconic blue bird in my dock. Here’s how to give Tweetbot for Mac the same icon as on iOS.

The guys at Tapbots released the highly anticipated Tweetbot for Mac today with a catch. The app is available for free, but it’s in alpha form. This means that the developers are still working furiously to iron out the kinks and create the complete, public version. But for now, those who feel so inclined can download Tweetbot for Mac 0.6 and give it a go.

I’ve been playing around with the app, and for an alpha release, Tweetbot for Mac is very good. The app has already become my default Twitter client on the Mac for a few reasons.

The day has finally come. Tapbots has released its highly anticipated Tweetbot for Mac application. After releasing an acclaimed iPhone app in April of 2011 and a native iPad app back in February, Tweetbot for Mac is now available to complete the family… albeit in alpha form.

The new Twitter client comes with stunning graphics for the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display, and the app’s design borrows heavily from the iOS interface. Tapbots designer Mark Jardine leaked a screenshot of the Mac app a few weeks ago. We’re all excited that it’s finally here!

It's coming. Tweetbot for Mac.
It's coming. Tweetbot for Mac.

Without a doubt, Tweetbot is the best Twitter client for the iPhone and iPad, putting to shame Twitter’s official app offering. Many have hoped that Tweetbot developer Tapbot would soon bring the experience to the Mac, and it looks like those hopes are about to come true, as Tweetbot for Mac is already within testing at Tapbot HQ.
