The Nevada Board of Economic Development endorsed a plan today, originally negotiated by the city council of Reno, to offer Apple $89 million in tax breaks in return for building a data center in the state.
The Reno, Nevada City Council today approved a deal that includes $89 million in tax abatements for Apple, representing a 79 percent overall reduction in Apple’s tax burden in the city. The tax breaks apply to county, city and state taxes, and will in part encourage Apple to invest $1 billion in northern Nevada over the next 10 years.
Apple is preparing to build another billion dollar data supercenter like the one powering its iCloud in North Carolina. This time, though, it’ll be built right outside of Reno, Nevada. Let’s hope that doesn’t prove to be the biggest little mistake Apple’s ever made.
Verizon continues to blanket the US with 4G LTE while the rest of the carriers desperately play catch up. We’re quick to complain about Verizon’s high prices but at least they’re putting that money to work. Today, Verizon announced it will be expanding its 4G LTE reach in ten California markets as well as Reno, Nevada within the coming weeks. 3G will soon be a thing of the past for those living in the following California cities:
