Toopher aims to use your location as a second way to verify you're you that goes beyond a username and password.

When Dropbox acknowledged its recent data breach last week, the company noted that it will be adding a range of security solutions in an effort prevent such a breach from occurring again. One of the technologies that Dropbox plans to implement is two factor authentication, which requires another identifying item beyond your username and password to grant you access to your account.

The second item in two factor authentication can be any one of a range of technologies like a smart card that needs to be swiped, a USB flash drive or other mobile that contains security certifications, a one-time user password token like RSA’s SecurID, or a biometric input like a fingerprint scan.

One company has another interesting option, however, your location.

Available for $0.99, Checkmark aims to replace Apple’s own Reminders app with a smarter workflow and much smarter location-based reminders.

Sick of forgetting to pick up that [insert household item here] every damn time you visit the grocery store? You need Checkmark.

iPhones, iPads Make It Hard For Most Americans To “Switch Off” After Work

Study shows iPhone and iPad users work well into their off hours, illustrating the need for Apple's Do Not Disturb feature in iOS 6
Study shows iPhone and iPad users work well into their off hours, illustrating the need for Apple's Do Not Disturb feature in iOS 6.

The iPhone and iPad have essentially created one more day’s worth of work for most Americans. That’s the big headline from a study by mobile security and management vendor Good Technology. The study, which involved 1,000 of Good’s customers, found that during off hours, the average American will put in seven hours worth of work each week, or, one extra workday.

Concerns about maintaining a healthy work/life balance are nothing new. The mobile devices that make knowledge workers more productive have the downside of creating a situation where most of us can be reached very easily whether we’re on the clock and in the office or we’re at home in bed. This always-connected lifestyle has even given rise to mental health issues like nomophobia – the fear of being without one’s phone.

The tendency to work well past the end of the workday is so prevalent that 80% of us do so on a regular basis.

Best Ways To Use Reminders On Your iPhone [Feature]

By

ios5_reminders

Apple introduced Reminders alongside iOS 5 and Siri (for the iPhone 4S) this past October, and while the world wasn’t exactly stunned, the app made an impression. The trick with any app, of course, is finding ways to use it efficiently.

Below are five of the best tips we’ve found to help you use this simple app more effectively, all in one place for your viewing pleasure. We tried to make sure that we focused on features that all iPhone owners could use, so as not to leave out those who haven’t upgraded to the 4S just yet.

By

Some people are never satisfied. They are always searching for the app that brings just the tiniest advantage to their daily workflow. People like this might not want to just stick with the Reminders app that’s bundled in with iOS 5, no. They might want to try an alternative. One such alternative is NotifyMe. Let us tell you a bit more about it.

Collaborate On Reminder Lists With Others [iOS Tips]

By

iCloud Sharing Reminders

Reminder lists rock, right? They let us track of all the things we need to do, access the lists on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or even in iCal on our Mac. Yet, wouldn’t it be slick if we could share, say, a shopping list with our husband or wife? Share a list of things to get done for a particular work project with our team members? What about set lists with the other folks in our disco band? That would be cool, right? It turns out that this is fairly simple yet not that intuitive to do.

Set Up A Location-Based Reminder With Maps [iOS Tips]

By

Location Reminder Hack

Setting up a location-based reminder on the iPhone is fairly simple. Those lucky souls with an iPhone 4S can just ask Siri to do it for them, but – like the rest of us – they still need to have an address in a Contact entry on their iPhone to make it work properly. Aside from typing in address information into the Contacts app, there’s an even easier workaround, using the Maps app.

Sync Reminders To Your Mac And Other Devices [iOS Tips]

By

iCal Reminders Sync

Making a list of tasks is a great way to be sure you’re getting things done, right? Without being able to see those reminders across all the devices and computers you may use in a given week, though, that list is going to be fairly useless. That’s the reason services and apps like Evernote have become so ubiquitous: instant access to your notes across all the digital environments you frequent.

Apple’s Reminders system is the company’s foray into a task list, but figuring out how to sync the lists across devices is somewhat non-intuitive. Here’s how to do just that.

Using Reminders On Your iPhone More Efficiently [iOS Tips]

RemindersBasics

In today’s tip, we’ll walk you through the basics of using Reminders app in a more efficient manner than just tapping away and hoping it all works out.

The Notes and Reminders app icons were briefly added to iCloud's beta portal on the web.

If you login to iCloud.com with your Apple ID you can access Apple’s Mail, Address Book, Calendar, Find My iPhone, and iWork apps on the web. Interestingly, beta.icloud.com briefly featured two more apps this morning that are currently unavailable to regular iCloud.com users. Apple pulled the icons after they were discovered a few minutes ago.

The beta version of iCloud.com revealed Apple’s plans to bring its Notes and Reminders iOS apps to the web. You would assumedly be able to see your notes and reminders as they are synced between your iOS devices by logging into the website.

View Reminders By Date in Calendar View [iOS Tips]

Reminders is a pretty slick to-do app, made by Apple for OS 5, that uses location and calendar data to help us remember the milk, our laundry, and any other important task we might need reminding for. Here’s a tip for the Reminders app that may be old news to some of you, but we’re betting that if we just found out about it, chances are there are other folks who haven’t noticed it, either.

Goodbye Growl, hello Notifications

Apple’s new version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, bakes in a lot of new features that may make existing third-party apps obsolete. Notification Center, Reminders, Messages and Twitter all step on the toes of independent developers. And worst of all, these apps come from some of the most popular categories in the App Store.
