By

keynote

Apple’s keynote today was long and packed with new products and software. There was a lot of stuff to love, and even somethings that were completely boring. What product are you most excited about that Apple announced today, other than the iPhone 5?

The new iPod Nanos look great, and the iPod Touch is just another reason why digicams are toast. And oh hey, there was that lanyard thing that comes with the iPod Touch that looks really dorky, but I’m sure people might really like it. What are you stoked for? Come chat with us in the forums about all the new stuff you’re excited to play with.

Paradox iPod nano Stainless Steel Watch Band Kit [Deals-Ending Soon!]

By

If you have one of the new touch-screen iPod nanos, then you know one of the cooler things you can do with it is to wear it as a watch. I mean all it needs is a front-facing camera and you have a Dick Tracy watch!

Of course one of the problems I’ve seen with iPod nano bands (remember I worked for an Apple retailer for a while and I saw lots and lots of samples) is that they just look…terrible. Most of the time the band is just a pop in-pop out kind of system that makes the watch band more of a wrist-mounted carry strap than a real watch band. This Paradox watch kit seems to be a horse of a different color. A kit that gives you the power of your nano in the sleekness of a watch. Hmm.

By

We’ve heard little about the next version of the iP0d nano, or if Apple will even release another one at all. While a new iPhone and smaller iPad look to be on the cards, the future of the iPod lineup is a tad uncertain.

According to a new report today, the next iPod nano will come with Wi-Fi functionality for iTunes in Cloud. “iPad mini” name may also be the official name Apple decides to go with for its smaller tablet come October.

The first sign that a new iPod nano is coming.
The first sign that a new iPod nano is coming.

Apple neglected to give its iPod line any real attention last year, and so it seems likely the devices will receive a much-anticipated refresh before the holidays. Still, we’ve seen little evidence of this, but one German rewards club has promised that there will be a new iPod nano this fall, and that the “old” model is no longer available from Apple.

Say Goodbye To The Nano Watch: Apple To Release Radically New iPod Nano Design [Rumor]

By

ipod_nano_oblong_rendering

More than any other iPod, the venerable iPod nano has tended to be the chrysalid of the family, morphing from one radically different shape to the next with every successive generation.

The first couple generations of the iPod nano tended to be long and thin devices, to be replaced with a squatter square third-gen model, before returning to its familiar rectangle shape for the fourth and fifth generations, only to become a radically different touchscreen Shuffle-sized device in 2010.

Crazy. So what’s next for the iPod nano? According to a new report, it’ll stay a multitouch device, but again become long, thin and rectangular. It’ll even get a home button!

The Alarm Clock Is The iPhone’s Real Killer App

Forget the laptop or the BlackBerry... the device the iPhone most often replaces is the alarm clock on your nightstand.
Forget the laptop or the BlackBerry... the device the iPhone most often replaces is the alarm clock on your nightstand.

U.K. carrier O2 decided to survey its users to determine which devices iPhones or other smartphones commonly replace in the lives of its customers. The most commonly replaced device turned out to be one of the more low-tech devices in daily life – the alarm clock.

54% of O2’s iPhone and smartphone customers have relegated their alarm clocks to the dustbin of history.

The second most commonly replaced device was also a time-keeping device: the watch.

The Syre offers functions that other watchbands can't boast.

Since the debut of the sixth generation iPod nano in late 2010, watchband cases have become all the rage. Within only a few weeks of release, numerous iPod nano watchbands started popping up, some better than others. There’s a new watchband in town now, and it’s shaping up to be the most impressive one yet. The Syre is the first iPod nano case to feature Bluetooth technology built in.

Imagine a JawBone JamBox, complete with its cute combination packaging/display case. Now imagine that it has been shrunken down into a two-inch cube. Further, try to picture a box that has had the Bluetooth radio extracted and replaced by a high-end DAC (digital analog converter) and a quality headphone amp. Now, keep this picture on your head as you reach around and pat yourself on the back and hear the theme from Rocky in your head.

Congratulations — you have successfully imagined the NuForce Cube, whilst simultaneously engaging all three of your main sensory systems.

The Loop Is My Favorite iPod Nano Wristband To Date [Review]

The Loop is a sleek, stylish, and lightweight iPod nano wristband.
The Loop is a sleek, stylish, and lightweight iPod nano wristband.

The Loop is a silicone wristband for the sixth-generation iPod nano that promises to turn your device in a “high end timepiece.” Its sleek, stylish design does away with the unnecessary bulk and aims to showcase your iPod nano rather than drawing attention away from it.

Once fitted, the Loop provides full access to your iPod’s headphone jack, dock connector, volume buttons, and sleep/wake switch. It features a stainless steel buckle that won’t perish up against your sweaty wrist, and it comes in a selection of colors. But best of all, it only costs $19.99.

What does that price say about the Loop’s design and build quality?

This Guy Got 4 Magnets Implanted In His Wrist To Hold His iPod Nano [Video]

By

iWatch

Most of us have kind of moved on from the iPod. It was really freaking awesome for a while, but then Apple came out with the iPhone and iPad. Since then iPod sales have slowly dropped, because why spend $150 on an iPod when an extra hundo will get you an iPod Touch? Some people still really really love their iPods though. Some in more crazy ways than others. Like Dave Hurban for example, who had four holes drilled into his wrist and plugged with magnets, just so he doesn’t have to bother with iPod Nano watch bands. Dave’s “invention” is called the iDermal, and it’s crazy, original, and pretty weird.

Pad&Quill’s Tiny Moleskine-Alike Case For… The iPod Nano?

The iPod Nano, like an iPad for little folks
The iPod Nano, like an iPad for little folk

If you’re going to launch a real product on April 1st, then you may as well make it seems as ridiculous as possible, and that’s just what Brian Holmes did yesterday when he announced The Littlest Black Book for the iPod Nano, the new tiny, nano-sized Moleskine-style case from Brian’s company, Pad&Quill.

I actually mailed Brian yesterday to see if this was for real, and it is. There’s even a Kickstarter page to prove it, which is already almost a quarter of the way to the $4,500 goal.

The Gentleman’s iPod Nano Is This Elegant iPocketWatch

By

4931_560_419

Like many Apple fans, I love the idea of the an iPod nano watch. I adore the fact that an idle comment from Steve Jobs about how the new nano is so small it can be worn as a watch got turned into a cottage industry of Kickstarters fashioning a multitude of hip new watchbands.

The only thing is I don’t want to wear the damn thing. I’m not a wristwatch kind of guy: I’m the sort of person who prefers pulling something out of his pocket, like my iPhone. So I wonder why it took someone so long to think of this incredible idea. Instead of a wristwatch, why not turn the iPod nano into a pocket watch?

War Hero’s Lost iPod Gets Returned To Him In Iraq

By

solideripod

Maybe I’m just a greedy bastard, but if I found a shiny new iPod wedged in between couch cushions at a hospital waiting room, I might ask around if it belonged to anybody, but I probably wouldn’t make the effort to return it to someone who lives thousands of miles away. Dalton Williams is 14 years old, and he’s also a better person than I am because he didn’t just make a weak effort to return a lost iPod to someone nearby, he tracked down the owner who was living 6,000 miles away in Iraq.

Listen To Live Radio On Your iOS Device With TuneIn Radio [iOS Tip]

By

tune-in-radio-iphone

One of the best things about Apple’s iPod nano is its radio app that allows you to listen to live radio anytime, anywhere. Unfortunately, we don’t get that feature with the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad… unless we use third-party apps.

TuneIn Radio allows you to listen live to over 50,000 stations around the world, pause and rewind your favorite shows, share stations and songs on social networks, and a whole lot more. Here’s how to get started.

iPod Nano Watch? Forget That. Try An iPod Nano Bracelet Instead

In some ways, this was Apple's first stab at an iWatch.
In some ways, this was Apple's first stab at an iWatch.

For a pretty big chunk of users, the iPod nano isn’t just an MP3 player; it’s also their watch. But what if you want something a little less watch-like from your nano? Maybe it’s time for a Nanolet — an iPod nano watchband that looks and acts a bit more like a bracelet, letting a tiny sliver of your wrist peek through.

You can grab one right now from Curecreative in a variety of colors including black, white, red, indigo and grey for just $21.52.

Sony’s SmartWatch Is The Closest Thing To Apple’s iWatch CES Has To Offer [CES 2012]

By

DSC_0048

LAS VEGAS, CES 2012 – When Steve Jobs unveiled the sixth generation iPod nano in September of 2010, he coyly said, “You can even wear it as a watch!” Overnight, the “iWatch” was coined and a whole new industry was born, as accessory makers flocked to deliver iPod nano watchbands.

Over the last year, Apple’s added a variety of new graphical watchfaces to the iPod nano, further emphasizing the nano’s suitability as a watch replacement. But that’s not nearly enough. The iPod nano’s inherent iWatchiness is a quality that Apple is still seriously under-exploiting.

Want to know how good a real iWatch could be? Look no further than Sony’s SmartWatch, on display this week at CES.
