It’s been months since the last iOS 10 jailbreak has been released. And according to the guys that originally made jailbreaking a huge craze, you shouldn’t get your hopes up about jailbreaking your iPhone ever again.

In fact, even if you could jailbreak iOS 10, Jay Freeman — the guy who invented Cydia, which was the App Store before the App Store was the App Store — says he doesn’t recommend it.

Jailbreaking is officially dead.

Untethered iOS 6 Jailbreak For iPhone 5, iPad Mini & More Promised For December 22? [Update] [Jailbreak]

By

Exciting. But is it true?
Exciting. But is it true?

Update: Shortly after this article was published “Dream JB” turned out to be a complete fake. The person behind the website literally rick rolled everyone and shut the site down. It was all apparently a “social experiment” from the beginning, and there was never an actual jailbreak for any kind. If a jailbreak release isn’t coming from known and respected hackers, don’t trust it. The source link to the site has been removed from the bottom of this post.

A mysterious hacker has begun teasing the first untethered jailbreak for the latest devices running iOS 6, including the iPhone 5, the iPad mini, and the fourth-generation iPad. The hack will not come from the usual suspects — the iPhone-Dev Team — but rather from an individual calling himself “Dream JB.” He promises it will arrive on December 22, but are we getting our hopes up over nothing?

iOS 6 Beta Gets Tethered Jailbreak For Developers

By

Well, that didn't take long.
Well, that didn't take long.

It’s been just four days since Apple released its first iOS 6 beta to registered developers, and it has already been jailbroken by the iPhone Dev-Team. There was some concern that the Cupertino company’s latest iOS release would make jailbreaking very difficult, but the team behind the latest iOS 5.1.1 untethered exploit have now released an iOS 6 beta jailbreak for developers.

If you’ve had problems jailbreaking your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad with the Absinthe 2.0 untethered jailbreak released a couple weeks back, good news: the indefatigable iPhone Dev Team have updated their popular jailbreak tools with iOS 5.1.1 untether compatibility, including redsn0w (for all factory unlocked devices), PwnageTool (for devices reliant on software unlock), Cinject (for already jailbroken but tethered iOS 5.1.1 devices) and Ultrasn0w 1.2.7.

iOS 5.1.1 Update Doesn’t Kill The Redsn0w Jailbreak For A4 Devices [Jailbreak]

Feel free to upgrade your A4 devices to iOS 5.1.1 without losing the ability to jailbreak.
Feel free to upgrade your A4 devices to iOS 5.1.1 without losing the ability to jailbreak.

We’d usually advise jailbreakers to avoid Apple’s iOS updates just after their release, until hackers have confirmed that the latest software can be jailbroken. But one report claims that it’s perfectly safe to update your A4-powered devices to iOS 5.1.1 without losing your Redsn0w jailbreak.

You’ll Be Waiting Some Time For An iOS 5.1 Jailbreak For A5 And A5X Devices

Don't expect to see Cydia on your new iPad anytime soon.
Don't expect to see Cydia on your new iPad anytime soon.

Just hours after its release on March 16, Apple’s new iPad was jailbroken by the iPhone Dev-Team. Their announcement gave us hope that an exploit for A5 and A5X devices running iOS 5.1 would be available within weeks, but it now seems like we’ll be waiting a whole lot longer than that.

The iPhone Dev Team has released a tool for jailbreaking A5-based iOS devices. Dubbed “CLI” (Command Line Interface), this Mac-only tool is not for the faint of heart. It’s a unix tool for jailbreaking and troubleshooting. Tinkerers can play with advanced settings to create custom firmware installs. If you think you have what it takes, CLI is available now.

A5 Jailbreak ‘Nearly Ready To Pop’ As More Details Are Released

Having been promised just over a week ago that an untethered jailbreak for Apple’s A5 powered devices was “just a matter of days away,” we were all expecting to see Cydia and all sorts of fancy tweaks installed on our devices by now. But of course, these things take time. After all, we want a smooth and reliable experience when we come to jailbreak our most prized possessions.

While the exploit still isn’t quite ready for public release, it’s certainly very close. Pod2g has issued further details on his team’s work, revealing that all the “technical hurdles” have already been overcome, and that they are just ironing out the final bug fixes before the hack goes live.

Hacker Finds Bug In iOS 5 That Could Lead To Untethered Jailbreak

By

iOS-5-untethered-jailbreak

When Apple seeded its first iOS 5 beta to registered developers back in June, it was discovered the company’s next-generation mobile platform eliminated untethered jailbreaking and meant that hackers must connect their device to their computer every time they wanted to boot it up if they hoped to maintain their jailbreak.

Since then, however, reports surrounding an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 have surfaced. The latest glimmer of hope comes from the Chronic Dev Team member Pod2g, who claims to have discovered a bug in the latest iOS 5 software that could lead to an untethered jailbreak.

Apple’s latest iOS 4 update dropped yesterday, which “fixes a security vulnerability with certificate validation.” Jailbreakers were initially advised not to update to the latest firmware, but as long as you’re happy with a tethered jailbreak for the foreseeable future, you’re safe to go ahead and update your device and then jailbreak with the latest RedSn0w release.

Apple released its promised iOS 4.3.4 software towards the end of last week to fix a security vulnerability in mobile Safari that made the latest JailbreakMe exploit possible. It goes without saying, then, that updating your device will eliminate the possibility of jailbreaking with JailbreakMe, but it will also kill all other untethered jailbreaks too!

PwnageTool 4.2 Fixes iBooks Issue, Untethered Jailbreak, Available Now

By

PwnageTool 4.2 tweet

The latest update to PwnageTool from the iPhone Dev-Team is now available to download, and version 4.2 brings with it untethered jailbreaking for devices running iOS 4.2.1 and fixes the recently discovered iBooks issue that prevents a user opening an iBookstore purchase on their jailbroken device.

PwnageTool uses the “feedface” untether developed by the Chronic Dev Team to allow for untethered jailbreaking in the latest release, and supports all 4.2.1 devices other than the iPod touch 2G. Another issue fixed in this version is the Wi-Fi problem that some users had with the second-generation AppleTV.

If you’ve already jailbroken your device and you’re desperate to gain access to your iBookstore purchases, don’t think you need to restore and jailbreak again with the latest version of PwnageTool. On their blog, the iPhone Dev-Team have stated that fixes for both the iBooks issue, and the Wi-Fi issue for AppleTV, will be available in an upcoming Cydia package that you’ll simply be able to download and install on your device.

Once again that’s iOS jailbreakers 1, Apple nil.
