Thinner MacBooks reportedly launching in Q4 or 2015

Digitimes gives a 15-month window for the new thinner MacBook. But hopefully it'll be with us by the end of 2014.

Apple is planning to launch an even slimmer MacBook, possibly as soon as the end of 2014, or else the vaguer long-term date of 2015, according to a new report from Digitimes.

The rumor cites Taiwan-based supply chain makers, and claims that production of components has already begun in small volumes. The report also states that the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro is expected to be retired by the end of 2014.

From April to June this year, Apple sold 4.41 million Macs: an increase of 7 percent from the previous quarter, and up 18 percent on year. Of these sales, around 80 percent reportedly came from the MacBook product line.

Although we did see an upgrade of the MacBook product line earlier this year — giving it a speed hike and memory boost — a more major refresh has been in the works for a while.

In particular, there have been rumors of a 12-inch Retina MacBook, which has supposedly been pushed back to Q3 2014 or early 2015, as a result of Intel’s delayed 14-nanometer Broadwell chips, which are reportedly used in the computers.
