BlackBerry has today updated its new BBM app for iPhone, addressing an issue that caused it to crash under Apple’s latest iOS 7.0.3 firmware. The update also brings a number of new features, including contact categories and list sorting and filtering in BBM Groups.
After finally getting BBM on your iPhone this week, you may have upgraded to iOS 7.0.3 to find it no longer works properly. One of the fonts BlackBerry uses in its app is no longer supported by Apple, causing the app to crash when you open existing chats. But there is a way around it.
“The zoom animations everywhere on the new iOS 7 are literally making me nauseous and giving me a headache.” That first post from an Apple support forum member on September 18th has since snowballed into a massive thread with over 640 replies and 57,000 views.
While it’s obviously a small portion of iOS 7’s 200 million+ user base, there’s a subset of the new operating system’s users that can’t handle all the zooming. Beyond the parallax effect, opening and closing apps is akin to jumping in and out of a mini vortex. “The whole look is just jarring,” said another forum member.
Apple has released iOS 7.0.3 following today’s keynote. The update is rolling out via OTA, and it is also available for direct download from Apple’s servers.
Included in 7.0.3 are a host of bug fixes, including one for a nasty glitch that was causing many iMessage users to pull their hair out. iCloud Keychain has also been added back to iOS 7 after its sudden removal during the beta process. Today’s update also fixes a software bug involving the iPhone’s accelerometer that got a lot of attention for causing incorrect measurements with the iPhone 5s.

Apple is expected to release another minor iOS 7 update next week to address more bugs and early teething problems. The Cupertino company released iOS 7.0.2 late last week to fix a lock screen security vulnerability, but that introduced new problems of its own that are likely to be addressed with iOS 7.0.3.
