Podcast fans should update iTunes pronto



Along with the OS X Mavericks update it released this morning, Apple also published a new version of iTunes that will make sure you never miss an episode of your favorite podcast again.

iTunes 11.2 adds a couple of improvements to the Podcast section of iTunes that make browsing between subscribed podcasts easier by showing you which episodes you haven’t listened to, thanks to a new Unplayed tab.

Everyone knows that listening to podcasts is one of the most computationally complicated tasks you can possibly do. In fact, it was only a few years ago that anyone who wanted to listen to some anonymous Internet dork mouthbreathing his thoughts into a mic in low-fidelity audio had to purchase themselves a veritable supercomputer to accomplish the feat.

I kid, of course, but even in podcasting, every bit of performance helps. Which is why we’re happy to report that our favorite podcasting app, Instacast, has just hit version 4.1, adding support for the iPhone 5s’s 64-bit processor.

Instacast 4 For iOS 7 Is The Perfect Replacement For Apple’s Podcast App



Instacast by Vemedio has been my podcaster of choice since I threw up my arms in frustration at Apple’s Podcast app and abandoned podcasts in iTunes altogether. That was about six months ago, and I’ve been beta testing version 4.0 of the Instacast iOS client over the summer. It’s a radical departure from the previous design, and it’s right at home in iOS 7.
