Relive Your Misspent Youth Gangsta-Style With GTA: San Andreas [Review]

GTA4

Rockstar Games has been re-releasing its GTA catalog on iOS platforms for the past few years. GTA 3 appeared as a 10th-anniversary port back in late 2011, and revered follow-up Vice City turned up a year later. San Andreas’ arrival isn’t a surprise, then, but it’s certainly a pleasant treat — a bit like when that Christmas gift you’d been requesting all year finally turns up under the tree.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas by Rockstar Games
Category: iOS Games
Works With: iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch
Price: $6.99

For those unfamiliar with this particular entry, it follows the rise and rise of former gangbanger Carl Johnson — aka CJ — as he returns to Los Santos to find his mom dead, his family in ruins and his former gang marginalized. From there it’s a climb back to the top, as CJ takes on local gangstas and corrupt cops en route to re-establishing control of the streets.

The first time I played Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was over ten years ago, and if you told me that one day, I would be able to play this massive 70+ hour open-ended carnage simulator, not on a bulky console, but a device thinner than a pack of cards I could fit into my pocket, I would have told you you were mad. Yet here we are, as Rockstar Games has released San Andreas to the iOS App Store.

The best GTA game is going mobile.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is the best thing that ever happened to the “Games” folder on my iPad. It’s one of my favorite games of all time, and I love that I can play it whenever, wherever now that it’s on iOS. U.K. Police Launch iPhone Game With ‘Striking Resemblance To Grand Theft Auto’

GTA vs. First Response. Do they look similar to you?
GTA vs. First Response. Do they look similar to you?

A British police force has been mocked for launching a new iPhone driving game that “bares an uncanny resemblance” to the hugely popular video game Grand Theft Auto, according to the Daily Mail. The free title from Northamptonshire Police made its App Store debut last Thursday, and allows players to complete a number of (lawful) driving challenges.

Some users feel it offers the same kind of experience that Rockstar’s title does, but you won’t be tasked with transporting drugs, taxiing prostitutes around, or killing gang leaders.

I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is finally available to download on Android (nearly!) and iOS, priced at $4.99. Rockstar Games has brought the hugely popular title to mobile to celebrate its 10th anniversary — as it did with Grand Theft Auto 3 last year — and it has made a number of improvements that will ensure you enjoy the game even more this time around.

GTA: Vice City looks better than ever.

Rockstar Games is bringing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — the best game in the GTA series, in my opinion — to Android and iOS on Thursday (like you didn’t already know that!) to celebrate its 10th anniversary. And to ensure we’re super excited for its release, the company has teased us with a few screenshots from the game.

They’ll look very familiar to you if you’ve already played Vice City before, because it’s almost exactly the same game. But look closely and you’ll notice the game looks a whole lot nicer this time around.

To celebrate its release, Rockstar Games has just launched a new Vice City trailer. If you’re a fan of the game, you have to check it out.

I am so excited for this.

After announcing back in October that it will bring Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to Android and iOS to celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary, Rockstar Games went quiet on the release, leaving us all to wonder when it would finally arrive. It even had me searching the App Store for ‘Vice City’ on a daily basis in the hope that it would suddenly appear.

The company has now confirmed, however, that Vice City will hit the App Store and Google Play on December 6, priced at $4.99.

Classic Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Coming To Mac Later This Year

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

The classic Grand Theft Auto 3 trilogy — including Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — is finally coming to OS X later this year, according to Rockstar Games.

Look for the long-awaited release of the classic Grand Theft Auto Trilogy (Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas) for Mac – most likely later this year.  We’ll have much more info and a proper announcement soon.

It’s about time, but don’t mistake the release of these titles as Rockstar finally getting serious about a commitment to Mac. The PC versions of the latest game we are talking about here — the superlative San Andreas — is well over five years old, which means it’ll run just dandy with a Wine translation layer on a modern Mac. Still, something’s better than nothing, although at this point, I’d be happier if they ported Bully.
